It is with great honour that I have been given the opportunity to take over the Australian School of Reflexology and Relaxation.

This is the school where I studied reflexology along with learning my true purpose and passion in life.

Dee Leaman and Carol McBain have been the co principles for over 20 years. During this time, producing many outstanding reflexologists, and certainly bringing the word “reflexology” into the Australian community. The school and modality has grown considerably during their time.

Many reflexologists are passionate about the ASSR and the spirit with which reflexology is taught. I am not alone in the gratitude and love I hold for the school and wonderful teachers who have played a strong role helping me have the confidence to achieve my vision.

It is my intent, along with an outstanding team of teachers, each specialist in their fields, to carry on the wonderful name and spirit of the school, and grow it to become the premier reflexology school.

To find out more about the ASRR or come along to our course information night, then contact Patricia (School Administrator)

I will keep you informed of courses, postgraduate workshops and general interest workshops through the Perfect Harmony Newsletter.

Profile Therapist for the Month - Karyl McGlinn

Karyl studied reflexology at the Australian School of Reflexology and Relaxation, and having completed a reiki course, incorporates energy work into her treatments. Her interest in reflexology developed after receiving a gift of a reflexology session, and experiencing first hand the amazing healing benefits.

Having come from the corporate world, areas including secretarial, computer technology, customer service and trouble shooting, Karyl was looking for a career in which she could best utilise her desire to work with people. Reflexology offered her the opportunity to help people in a hands on way, as a valuable aid to helping people cope with the many changes and challenges facing us today.

Karyl has experienced first hand the benefits of working with children during their growing years. In this area she holds a particular passion.

Currently, Karyl is practicing reflexology at our St Kilda Rd clinic, providing reflexology to the corporate sector, and in a volunteer capacity at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Karyl draws on all her experiences from the business world and motherhood to help bring balance and harmony to people’s lives.

Feet reading- Window to the Soul

The soles of the feet reflect the physical and the emotional state of the body. By looking at the characteristics of the feet, we gain an insight as to how that person perceives themselves from an emotional perspective. We can identify areas that may be causing stress in their life, thereby identifying the root cause of dis-ease.

At first glance these feet indicate a broad minded grounded person.

A sensitive person who holds a lot of emotion, whilst putting up a brave front. There is callusing around the ball of the foot indicating she feels the need to protect herself from feeling emotionally controlled.

The big toe looks pushed down, indicating a feeling of her thoughts and ideas being held down -”pulling her head in”. The callusing around the mouth reflex tells me that this person speaks what she feels others want to hear. This is tiring her, as the reflex area is pale.

In the past (right foot) the neck of the big toe shows vertical lines. There are around 5 lines, meaning that her thoughts and ideas were segmented into 5 different areas. Her thoughts are not as fragmented as in the past.

The little toe on the right foot (past) has released, indicating that this lady does not bend to meet the needs of her family as much as she did. She has let go of a lot of the perceived constraints, and so is doing more things now that she wants, rather than because she feels obligated.

The very pale instep on the right foot indicates “soul tiredness”. This person gives of herself but has difficulty receiving.

These feet represent a compassionate giving person, but care must be taken to allow time to replenish her own energy, practicing self love and compassion, as she extends to others.

I would recommend the crystal Carnelian to help vitalise the physical, emotional and mental bodies.

If you would like your feet read on our newsletter, please send a feet photo similar to the one above and include a measurement of the soles of each foot, plus your body height. Please understand that by doing so you are giving permission for these photos to be used for educational purposes. No names will be used.

If you are interested in learning to read the feet or would like your feet read in more depth then you can book a Feet reading Harmony experience. We also have one day workshops available.

Purpose- Purple Iris
Brings a perspective of purpose which is needed when one embarks upon a new, abundant path of healing and serves to harmonies the inner turmoil.

Empowerment- Bird Of Paradise
Helps clear the stale old-habit energies, replacing them with a decisive zest for action, enthusiasm, and joy.

Unconditional Love- The Rose
Inspires truth, acceptance, endurance and faithfulness; opens the heart to the soul’s highest needs, to authenticity and expressing one’s true feelings, and to be receptive to love being offered.

Despite the challenges of life, conveys a feeling of calm strength, loosening the anxiety cords with which we bind our hearts and minds.

Activating the Healer within- Birch
Accesses the healing capacity of every human being at the cellular level, where all true healing begins. Uncovers blocks that are deeply hidden in order for them to be faced, and thus to start the healing process. Insight comes to transcend the denial or the false appearances that may be clouding the truth about one’s life. With confidence, Birch brings down the walls and heals the wounds.

Balance- Native Wisteria
Integrates one’s capacity for being responsible with one’s imagination and vulnerability. A bonding of the two results in a sense of freedom to make choices from a centre that is calm, trusting and good-intentioned.

Harmony- Peace Lily
The energy signature of this flower radiates strong vibrations of protection and cleansing that is most often used in the home to bring harmony to a room, as suggested in Feng Shui practices. It creates a similar ‘interior environment,’ so to speak, when taken internally. Thus a feeling of things becoming right and whole takes the place of scattered thoughts in a challenged psyche.

How safe is your bathroom?
Are toxic ingredients lurking in your home?
Have you read the warning labels on your personal care products?

Did you know the products in your bathroom cabinet may contain toxic, harmful, poisonous & even carcinogenic ingredients, including your cosmetics, skin care, toothpaste, mouthwash, shaving cream, feminine products & more......?

Many commonly used products contain potentially harmful ingredients made of very small molecules which may penetrate the skin, enter the blood stream & build up in the liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, & tissues.

Take a moment to think about your morning routine - after lathering, spritzing or smearing yourself with shampoo, conditioner, soap, toner, moisturizer, eye cream, foundation, blush, eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, gloss & perfume, you may have put enough chemicals into your body to be hazardous to your health before you have even left home!

Whilst chemicals in any one product are unlikely to cause harm, it is apparent we are repeatedly exposed to synthetic chemicals from many sources each day! With so many choices on the market these days, it is difficult not to fall victim to the onslaught of false advertising & unsubstantiated claims. Just because a company claims to be “natural” doesn't make it so.

Here are some tips to buying quality natural skin care products & cosmetics:

  • Buy pure plant based products – ingredients from the botanical world are safe, effective & bio-compatible with human skin. A good rule of thumb is that if you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin!
  • Keep it simple, read ingredient labels, steer clear of anything that looks like a chemistry lesson & don't hesitate to ask questions.
  • Buy from your local health food store – you will find more knowledgeable staff & a better range of natural & organic products than in your local supermarket or pharmacy.
  • Buy certified organic where possible.
  • Buy products suited to your skin type & lifestyle.
  • Do not use products tested on animals or that contain animal ingredients – you can guarantee they will contain harmful chemicals!
  • Buy Australian made.

Now is the time to make positive changes for your own health & wellbeing.

Knowledge is power! Informed people make informed choices!

Don't be fooled by expensive glossy labels - just because it costs more doesn't make it a superior product, what you might really be paying for is the label & advertising! In next months newsletter, Do your own research & refer to our top eight “chemicals to avoid.”

Karyl McGlinn - Children and Reflexology

I have a 7½ year old son and I‘ve found Reflexology to be a Godsend during his growing years. Thomas was born premature at 33 weeks and weighed 1.215kgs or 2lbs 11oz. He spent only 3 weeks in the special care nursery and came home weighing only 1.450kgs.

When he was just 2 months old he developed colic. This is a very distressing condition. After several weeks of what seemed to be continual crying, I was told of a homeopathic product that helped to reduce the pain and therefore reduced the crying. The colic would come and go as he developed teeth or grew, but it would never go away completely.

By the time he was about 2 years old, I decided to take my son for a reflexology session. I had been going to Reflexology for myself for a couple of months and felt so much better. After just the first treatment I found that the colic disappeared. He received another 2 treatments, which brought his body back to balance. He did not get as sick, or have as many tantrums after this. I then decided to study Reflexology so that I could help him myself, as he was growing up.

Later Thomas developed eczema on his face, especially his eye lids. I have been able to manage his eczema by giving him reflexology sessions when it flares up. He also seems to have a build up of anger inside him. The Reflexology helps to disperse the anger and settle down the eczema, making life easier not only for Thomas, but for the whole family.

To help relieve Colic gently massage the instep of the foot. There are reflexes relating to the intestines, kidneys and liver (right foot). Also massage along under the balls of the feet, to help relax the diaphragm area of the body.

Since I began my journey with Reflexology, I have worked on many children. Children are particularly responsive to reflexology.

In my experience, I have found excellent results after only a few sessions. Children seem to have an inner knowing as to how many sessions they require, and the duration of each session. Usually with children the duration of the session may last from 5 min for a new born to 30 min for an older child. Time depends on their concentration levels.

Reflexology can help to:

  • Soothe hyperactivity or fractiousness in babies
  • Calm excitable children
  • Reassure or soothe babies
  • Balance hormonal activity in teenagers
  • Help teenagers who suffer from examination nerves
  • Generally help to maintain a healthy body.

SPECIAL OFFER for Children

  • 30 min reflexology session $30 Available with Karyl only on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Special offer available to children under 17
