Be careful what you wish for….. You just may get it..

Look back at your life and think about all the things you have wished for or dreamed of having. Being completely honest with yourself, have you received it?

It may be good or not so good. I remember when I was in my late teens/ early 20’s I used to have eczema on various parts of my body that was quite embarassing. I used to say, I wish this eczema was on my hands….yes you guessed it, years later I did not have eczema on my body, I only had it on my hands. In retrospect I should have wished it healed completely, as I do now.

I have used this thought process to manifest more positive things in my life that I really desired, although I thought, out of my reach. I must admit that my dreams are coming true. At times of change your mind may need to adjust and release the limiting emotions that may be sabotaging you achieving your desires. As you step up and move on, your body may experience physical symptoms.

It is my experience that tells me that this is your body’s way of bringing the emotion or suppressed emotion to the surface so that it may me dealt with and released. Physical illness is your body’s way of telling you something is not being addressed emotionally. If you do suffer from physical illness, take the medical measures you require to treat the illness, but also address the emotional aspect of the condition by speaking with a learned friend or qualified practitioner. And dare to live your dream!

Feet reading- Window to the Soul

The soles of the feet reflect the physical and the emotional state of the body. By looking at the characteristics of the feet, we gain an insight as to how that person perceives themselves from an emotional perspective. We can identify areas that may be causing stress in their life, thereby identifying the root cause of dis-ease.

Each month I will be “reading” obvious characteristics of people’s feet. If you would like your feet read anonymously, please send in a digital photo. The more “interesting,” the better! Characteristics just identify the masks, thus allowing me to identify the true soul.

The first thing I notice about these feet is the colour. The tips of toes and the padded area under the toes are red and yellow. This indicates slight anger, and indignation in relation to emotional issues (of the heart) and being “allowed” to expressing her thoughts and ideas.

The yellow patch is more predominant on the Right foot under the little toe. This show indignation (being cheesed off) with family issues she is still holding on to from the past. Also there is yellow around the heels indicating resentment that she must “dig her heel in’’ relating to the direction she wishes to take. The toes are relatively long indication creativity and intuition. The toes on the Left are more spread than the right; they are in fact more spaced than they were, showing a clearing of the mind. There is now space to think and open the mind to the bigger picture.

The big toes are pushed down, giving the impression that the second toes are longer than the first. This indicated that she feels that she must “pull her head in” or feels that others are stopping her when it comes to expressing her thoughts and ideas. The little toe on the left foot has lifted showing that this person no longer bends to meet the needs of the family, how ever there is still a little way to go relating to not allowing perceived family restrictions stopping her from pursuing her dreams. Over all these are good feet showing a caring, open minded person, just working through a few underlying concerns, but defiantly heading in the right direction.

If you would like your feet read on our newsletter, please send a feet photo similar to the one above and include a measurement of the soles of each foot, plus your body height. Please understand that by doing so you are giving permission for these photos to be used for educational purposes. No names will be used.

If you are interested in learning to read the feet or would like your feet read in more depth then you can book a Feet reading Harmony experience. We also have one day workshops available.

Soul Glimpses Into the Healing Garden

The Healing Garden can be a place to renew your spirit, body and mind. A personal, private space where you can go to be alone, to commune with the natural world on your own terms.

To begin the creation of your healing garden, make sure to incorporate the following three important elements

  1. A containment to act as a ceiling or walls, such as that created by a gazebo, an archway, or a pergola. You can also create one yourself with climbing plants on a trellis, for example.
  2. The Centre, or focus of your garden, which is you. Along with yourself, add a comfortable seat or chair.
  3. The obvious missing ingredients are the plants that you will invite into your garden. They will be your witnesses, companions and healers in your journey to wholeness and harmony.

For a start, let me suggest a few green friends that, over the centuries, have helped countless soul seekers leave the mundane world behind and totally immerse themselves in their healing process.

Lemon Balm, Melissa officinalis

Plant Lemon Balm where you can brush against its aromatic foliage. It loves the sun or can grow in partial shade. The leaves are the part of the plant that is used for a cooling Herb Tea for it tastes like lemons, as its name indicates. Furthermore, it contains a phytochemical called “rosmarinic acid” that has strong anti-viral properties and it just might protect you from that winter cold!

Lavender, Lavandula angustifolia

Grow for its beautiful mauve to red flowers, its heavenly fragrance, and faithful companionship in your healing garden. Lavender may be used for cosmetic washes ~ the word “lavande” is derived from French, “laver” or “to wash” ~ to help with migraines, and also its flowers can be used in baking cup cakes and slices.

Rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis

The strong scent of Rosemary makes a great addition to your healing garden, but it can also be made into a tea to enhance memory ~ though only to be used sparingly and infrequently, as some of its phytochemicals can be toxic if overused. Make Rosemary a part of your culinary experience and lamb dishes will never taste the same!

Fear is my Favourite Emotion!

I bet not many of you have said that to yourself before! In fact it was not to long ago that I would not have imagined saying that statement to myself either (and believing it). My clients also find it a bit mind boggling when I say this to them. In fact in the first consultation most of my clients actually say things like:

  • I hate my emotions and how they make me feel
  • There is no logical reason why I should feel fearful
  • My anxiety/fear is getting in the way of me reaching my goals and living life
  • I am sick of constantly feeling this way
  • I am an emotional wreck
  • I feel out of control
  • I feel like there is something wrong with me

Many people who struggle with their fear and anxiety find it very difficult to see any positives in their fear and anxiety because they have not been taught how to turn this emotion into a positive force in their lives.

However my own search to understand fear and anxiety (as a client and practitioner), and a recent book I have read indicates that fear and anxiety can play a very powerful positive role in your life, actually adding to your capacity to live life to the fullest.

Even though I have been working with anxiety in this way for some time I have rarely seen other people working from the same perspective. However a colleague of mine Anthony Gunn (a psychologist based in NSW) stumbled across this idea also and decided to do some research to test the theory. His idea was to interview so called “fear professionals”, professional athletes, police, SAS solders, boxers, martial artists and explorers etc and talk to them about how they deal with fear and anxiety. He believed that they must have some magical way of staying fearless in order to have accomplished what they have in their life.

However the opposite was actually the case, his research showed that these people still feel much fear and anxiety and probably more than most because of what they do. The difference is that they have much more effective ways of dealing with their fear and anxiety. This means that their fear and anxiety did not hold them back in their life and actually helped them achieve their goals. Quite an amazing find, don’t you think?

Over the last few years I have been working on developing a program that takes clients through a structured process that will teach them the knowledge and skills need to turn fear and anxiety into a resource in their life. I have called this my Emotional Coaching Program. The program consists of 12 weekly one on one session’s that are designed to give clients the background knowledge, practical skills to transform their relationship with anxiety. During the sessions all the material is learnt in a very practical fashion allowing clients to quickly start applying this new knowledge and skills in the real world.

Dean is a registered psychologist and natural therapist working in private practice in Coburg and Melbourne (St Kilda road). You can find out more about his approach to anxiety on his websites (holistic approaches to anxiety www.activemindandbody.com.au or the emotional coaching program www.emotionalcoaching.com.au ) or he would be happy to answer any questions you may have, he can be contacted on 93842700 and email

Reflexology with Robyn at The Jewel

What is reflexology?

As quoted by Dwight Byers;
‘Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that corresponds to all the glands, organs and parts of the body.’ Reflexology is a non invasive therapy that works well in conjunction with modern medicine.'

In a session the therapist gently relaxes the foot prior to the reflex areas being worked. The level of pressure applied is always personalized to suit each individual client.

Some of the conditions that are assisted by reflexology:

  • *acne
  • *arthritis
  • *depression
  • *edema
  • *allergies
  • *back problems
  • *diabetes
  • *headache/migraine
  • *hay fever
  • *infertility
  • *kidney problems
  • *menopause
  • *sinus
  • *sciatica
  • *stress

What can reflexology do for me?

  • *Relieves dis ease at the root level
  • *Reduces muscular tension
  • *Counteracts fatigue
  • *Assists in detoxification
  • *Soothes nervousness and fear
  • *Improves circulation and nervous function
  • *Eases aches, pain and dis comfort
  • *Assists lymphatic drainage
  • *Helps to bring the body back in to balance

What can I expect in a reflexology session with Robyn?

In conjunction with very specific reflexology techniques Robyn uses a unique method to balance her client’s mental, physical and spiritual energy.

The usual time allowed for an appointment is either 45 minutes or one hour in length. First time clients will be asked to allow an extra fifteen minutes so a medical and lifestyle history can be taken.

If the reason for the appointment is for a specific condition Robyn will put together a treatment program that may involve weekly sessions for six weeks followed by a review to ascertain the level of improvement achieved. The spacing between appointments may then be lengthened to a maintenance program of fortnightly or monthly visits. Everybody however responds in their way and time.

Robyn finds that her clients just love the benefits of receiving regular reflexology treatments that keep them feeling physically, mentally and spiritually on top.

Robyn is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Jewel.
